Write down what a successful visit looks like: a phone call, a WhatsApp enquiry, an order or a submitted request. That action should guide the first pages you build. A service website needs to explain the offer and show relevant work before asking for a conversation. An online store needs clear products and a purchase journey.
Consider where your traffic lands, too. A visitor searching for one service may enter directly on its page. That page should answer the basic questions and provide its own contact route without requiring a trip back to the homepage.
Compare the day-to-day workflow
A custom business website: consider this for a defined set of service and portfolio pages with occasional changes.
WordPress: consider an editable content workflow when your team needs to publish or update pages regularly.
Shopify: consider a storefront when product discovery and order management are central.
A custom portal: discuss this when users need logins, permissions, operational records or connected systems.
These are starting points for a scope discussion, not a ranking of platforms. Confirm the required features and the person responsible for keeping the site current.
Build a small, complete first version
For a service business, begin with a clear offer, service details, selected examples, an about page and a contact path. Use genuine project screenshots and describe what you implemented. Do not add unsupported client counts or results simply to fill a template.
For a store, test a representative product, collection and order journey before expanding the catalogue. In my Loto.pk project, seller submissions and seller-specific WhatsApp links added requirements beyond a simple product grid. Write down those differences before choosing a basic store package.
Check the experience on a real phone
Open the site using an ordinary mobile connection. Check whether the menu opens, buttons are easy to tap, text fits and forms remain usable with the keyboard open. Try the contact action from a service page as well as from the homepage. Make sure the resulting message gives your team enough context to respond.
Google recommends considering overall page experience, including Core Web Vitals and mobile usability. A performance score is useful evidence, but it does not replace checking the customer journey or guarantee search rankings.
Choose the right help
Compare WordPress development and Shopify development if content editing or selling is your main requirement. If your existing site is fine but your team copies order data repeatedly, AI automation may be a more relevant discussion than a redesign.
Before commissioning work, agree who owns the domain and accounts, who supplies content, how updates are handled and what launch checks are included. Share a short brief through the contact page so we can choose a scope around the actual business need.
